Bio:

"Sylvain Barou, from Brittany is considered one of the best flute players of his generation. Playing mainly Irish and Breton music, Sylvain has played with Sualtam, David Pasquet, Guichen, Denez Prigent, Jacques Pellen-Celtic Procession, Gildas & JB Boclé, Dan Ar Braz, Soig Siberil, Yvan Cassar.. and has also been heard playing at some occasions with a few of the greatest names of Irish traditional music (Donal Lunny, Liz Carroll, John Doyle, Paddy Glackin…) he has been seen playing at some of the major festivals and venues of the genre such as Glasgow Celtic Connections, Festival Interceltique de Lorient, Festival de Cornouaille, Festival des Vieilles Charrues, Les Tombées de la Nuit, Transmusicales, Paléo Festival, Ennis Trad Festival, FMM Sines, Théatre de La Ville, Jazz à Vienne, Bercy, Stade de France, Musiques Nomades in Nouakchott, Tanger Festival, Dranouter Folk Fest, etc...

Today, Sylvain travels the world with his own group and the bands Comas (irish music) and with guitar player Jean Charles Guichen (ex.Ar Re Yaouank), he is also part of a new exciting irish project called "Guidewires" with Padraig Rynne, Tola Custy, Paul Mc Sherry and Karol Lynch. Sylvain also plays in Jacques Pellen's new group TAHLI GANG with jazz, breton and indian flavours. He is also an active member of an indian fusion/pop group, Olli & The Bollywood Orchestra, indian music is a strong influence as he also plays the bansuri flute. (Olli & The B.O has released 2 albums, both mixed at Realworld studios.) More recently, he has been also strongly influenced by sufi music, from Turkey and Iran in particular, and likes to arrange it with traditional breton music in his new group with Keyvan Chemirani and R & J. Pellen (he already made a project in that sense in 2005 inviting Istanbul oud player Smadj to play with breton musicians.) Sylvain also experiments various indian music projects with tabla genius Prabhu Edouard and santoor maestro Sandip Chatterjee.

It may sound strange that he uses so different influences and traditions, but Sylvain managed to create a common language between all that , with a huge respect of each tradition."
