..........Image hosting.... .... Rido Bayonne – l’Histoire d’un Pionnier de la Musique .... Rido Dieudonné BAYONNE (Bayonne est son véritable nom de famille, porté de père en fils depuis trois siècles) naît en 1947 à Pointe Noire au Congo, où il hérite de la richesse inépuisable des musiques et rythmes africains. .... Dès son enfance, il tape sur des troncs d’arbres et des caisses, rêvant de jouer à la guitare. Ses idoles d’alors sont Serge Essous, Nino Malapet et Joseph Kabasele. .... A l’âge de 13 ans, découvert par l’Orchestre « Les Bantous de la Capitale », il devient le batteur le plus populaire du Congo. Ensuite il vit 10 ans dans une famille d'adoption à Douala, au Cameroun. Il y apprend la guitare avec le père de la guitare congolaise moderne, Tino Barosa. Il fait ses débuts dans les clubs de l'époque, dont le Castel et le Saint-Hilaire. .... C'est à Paris qu'il approfondit la guitare et la basse et nous le retrouvons rapidement comme bassiste aux côtés de grandes vedettes de la chanson française et internationale, tels que Graeme Allright et Maxime Le Forestier. .... En 1972, Rido Bayonne crée le groupe « Spheroe » avec Michel Perez, Gérard Maimone et Patrick Garel. Ils enregistrent les albums « Spheroe » et « Primadonna ». A la demande du metteur en scène Georges Lavaudant, ils composent et interprètent la musique de deux pièces de théàtre : « Palazzo Mentale » et « le Roi Lear ». .... En 1978, Rido Bayonne rencontre le célèbre harmoniciste américain Sugar Blue. Il devient son bassiste attitré, puis son compositeur et chef d'orchestre. Ensemble, ils composent et enregistrent « From Chicago to Paris » et partent en tournée en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. .... 1979 voit la sortie d'un 45 tours « Rido and James », suivi en 1982 d’« Eyano », un 33 tours, deux albums par lequels il signe définitivement ses talents d'arrangeur, de directeur artistique et de musicien multi-instrumentiste. Il côtoie nombre de vedettes internationales comme James Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Jaco Pastorius ... .... Passionné par la composition novatrice, puisant son inspiration dans ses multiples expériences musicales, Rido Bayonne crée son Grand Orchestre en 1983. L'aventure est de taille, à la mesure de son ambition et de son exigence. Sur scène, ce chef d’orchestre charismatique réunit ses 18 musiciens en une seule inspiration, un seul cœur qui bat. .... Avec son Grand Orchestre, Rido Bayonne peut finalement tout rassembler : l'Afrique tend la main à l’Europe, le Nord rencontre le Sud, la Rumba du Congo s’accouple avec le Makossa du Cameroun ... le jazz, le funk et la musique classique fédérant l’ensemble ! .... Les festivals et concerts s'enchaînent, dont les Fêtes de Bayonne en 1995, où il est l'invité d'honneur de la ville pendant une semaine. .... Le concert live donné à cette occasion devient l’album « Gueule de Black », produit par la Scène Nationale de Bayonne sous le label « Jazz aux Remparts ». .... Rido Bayonne s’embarque ensuite sur un projet d’une envergure peu commune : pendant 5 années, il prépare, enregistre, coordonne 150 musiciens, écrit des textes dans 14 langues et tisse ensemble une profusion de styles pour donner naissance à son Hymne à la Vie et à l'Harmonie Universelle. L’album nommé « A Cœurs et Ames » sort en octobre 2001. .... En 2002, il retrouve sa patrie africaine. Il part en tournée avec son Grand Orchestre, sous l’égide des Centres Culturels français du Congo et du Cameroun. C’est cette tournée qui lui inspirera son futur album « Douala-Brazza ». (-ville). .... De retour en Afrique en 2004, à l’occasion du Festival « Jazz à Ouaga », (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso), sa célébrité attire des douzaines de jeunes musiciens, désireux d’apprendre de lui. En effet, Rido BAYONNE est aussi un révélateur de talents et un professeur infatigable. L’année suivante, il organise un atelier musical de six semaines avec 18 de ces musiciens prometteurs, créant ainsi le Jazz Orchestra du Burkina, le « JOB ». Leur premier concert est un succès spectaculaire qui ne s’est jamais démenti. .... En 2005, Rido Bayonne et son grand Orchestre participent au « Fespam », le Festival Panafricain de Musique au Congo. .... 2006 voit la sortie du single « Hommage à la Femme », un hommage à toutes les femmes du monde, en 4 chansons. .... Rido Bayonne anime également un atelier de musique au Congo et crée l’Orchestre « Kongo Groove System », avec ‘ses enfants du pays’. .... L’année suivante, il assure l’ouverture et la clôture du « Fespam » avec le « Kongo Groove System ». Toujours précurseur, il invite des chanteurs Pygmées à se joindre à l’Orchestre au grand final … et la performance reçoit une … ovation debout ! .... En 2007, Rido Bayonne produit l’album « Douala-Brazza » : 97 musiciens rendent un hommage vibrant à ses deux patries, son Congo natal et son Cameroun adopté. .... Toujours en 2007, Rido Bayonne fête son 60ème anniversaire à Paris avec éclat : 2 semaines de concerts avec son Grand Orchestre (qui compte maintenant 60 musiciens) et pas moins de 200 musiciens invités de partout, ‘ses enfants’, comme ils aime les appeler, tous impatients de se joindre à la fête en l’honneur de leur ‘Tonton Rido’. .... Sorti en 2008, « Rido Bayonne, Born in Africa », est le titre d’un documentaire écrit, réalisé et dirigé par Dom Pedro et produit par Grenade Productions. .... Ce film marque les 30 ans de carrière internationale de Rido Bayonne qui appartient désormais au club très fermé des géants de la scène musicale mondiale. .... Aujourd’hui, Rido Bayonne est reconnu par de nombreux artistes renommés comme un ‘Maître’, une référence, voire même une ‘institution’. Rido Dieudonné Bayonne (Bayonne is his actual name, handed down from father to son over three centuries) was born in 1947 in the Congo, heir to the boundless wealth of African sounds and rhythms. .... From childhood he's beating time on tree trunks and boxes, dreaming of playing the guitar. His idols are Serge Essous, Nino Malapet and Joseph Kabasele. .... At the age of 13, he's discovered by "Les Bantous de la Capitale" Orchestra and becomes the most popular drummer of the Congo. Then he lives 10 years in Cameroun with a foster family and learns to play the guitar, tutored by the father of modern congolese guitar, Tino Barosa. He plays in the clubs of the era like the Castel and the Saint-Hilaire. .... In Paris he perfects his talent and we soon find him appearing as bass guitarist alongside French performers and international stars such as Graeme Allright and Maxime Le Forestier. .... In 1972, Rido Bayonne forms the "Spheroe" band with Michel Perez, Gérard Maimone and Patrick Garel. They record two albums : "Spheroe" and "Primadonna". At the request of theater director Georges Lavaudant, they compose and perform the music for two plays : "Palazzo Mentale" and "King Lear". .... In 1978, he meets the famous American harmonist Sugar Blue. He becomes his bass guitarist and soon his composer, conductor and musical director. Together they compose and record "From Chicago to Paris" and perform all over Europe and the United States. .... In 1979, he releases "Rido and James" and in 1982 "Eyano", two albums which establish his reputation as arranger, artistic director and all-round performer. He rubs shoulders with international stars such as James Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Jaco Pastorius … .... To communicate his passion for daring and innovative composing, Rido Bayonne founds his Grand Orchestra in 1983. The challenge is great, but then so is his ambition. On stage, this charismatic leader will merge the 18 musicians into a single breath, a single beating heart. .... With his Grand Orchestra, Rido Bayonne can finally bring it all together : Africa reaches out to Europe, the North meets the South, rumba from the Congo mates with makossa from Cameroun … with jazz, funk and classical music embracing them all. .... Festivals and concerts follow, including the 1995 Bayonne Festival where he is invited as the City's Guest of Honor. Rido Bayonne's live concert "Gueule de Black", is recorded and produced by the "Scène Nationale de Bayonne" under the "Jazz aux Remparts" label. .... Rido Bayonne then embarks on a monumental project : 5 years' preparing and recording, coordinating 150 musicians, writing lyrics in 14 languages and weaving together a profusion of styles to bring forth his Hymn to Life and Universal Harmony. The album entitled "Hearts and Souls" is released in October 2001. .... In 2002, he returns to his African homeland with his Grand Orchestra, on an extended musical tour hosted by the French Cultural Centers of the Congo and Cameroun. This tour will inspire the future album "Douala-Brazza" (-ville). .... In 2004, he's back in Africa at the "Jazz à Ouaga Festival" (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso), where his fame attracts dozens of young musicians eager to learn from him. For Rido Bayonne is also a talent hunter and a teacher. The following year, he returns to conduct a six-week-long music workshop with 18 of these promising young performers who become the Jazz Orchestra of Burkina, "JOB". Their first concert is a spectacular success. (The orchestra is still going strong). .... In 2005, the Grand Orchestra travels to the Congo to participate in the "Fespam", the Panafrican Festival. .... In 2006, Rido Bayonne releases the "Hommage à la Femme" single, a tribute of 4 songs in honor of all women. .... He also conducts a workshop in the Congo and creates the "Kongo Groove System" band with "his kids". .... The following year, he's back with the "Kongo Groove System" to open and close the Panafrican Festival. Always the forerunner, he invites polyphonic Pygmee singers to join his band for the grand finale and receives a standing ovation. .... In 2007, he releases the "Douala-Brazza" album : 97 musicians performing a vibrant hommage to his two homelands, his native Congo and 'adopted' Cameroun. .... 2007 is the year he celebrates his 60th birthday in Paris with a bang : 2 weeks of gala concerts with his Grand Orchestra, (now 60 performers strong), and no fewer than 200 guest musicians from all over, "his kids" as he likes to call them, wanting to join the party in honor of their "Tonton Rido" ("Uncle Rido"). .... In 2008, "Rido Bayonne, Born in Africa", the documentary film written and directed by Dom Pedro and produced by Grenade Productions celebrates Rido Bayonne's 30-year international career as outstanding member of the very private club of giants of the world music scene. .... Rido Bayonne is considered by many of today's top performers as a ‘Master’, a reference, even an institution.
