  • Bio

.. .. ........ .. ....MAMADY KEITA......Mamady KEITA was born in 1950 in the middle of the Guinean savannah. Introduced to the djembe from the age of 7, he joined the Ballet National Djoliba of Guinea at 14, quickly becoming the solo drummer and later artistic director. Mamady toured all over the world with Djoliba, appearing at numerous major festivals including, in 1969, the Pan-African Festival of Algiers where he received the gold medal and more notably the title of "Africa's greatest drummer"....In 1986, he joined the Koteba company in Abidjan directed by Souleymane Koly. In 1989, he created his group SEWA KAN and settled in Belgium. Mamady gives the djembé its letters of nobility while bringing it artistic autonomy, proving thus that the djembe is not only an instrument of accompaniment to the service of the song and the dance but also an instrument of creation. Mamady teaches djembé around the whole world where he has reached a celebrity status on the way to becoming "mythical"....."Djembefola" and "Mogobalu" are the two movies which have been dedicated to Mamady, who has recorded fourteen CDs, a Live DVD "Live@ Couleur Café" and several instructional DVD’s and CD’s.....Mamady has now reached 50 years of musical career amd that something to be celebrated! His band, SEWA KAN is an all-star band of 11 Mandingo percussionists, musicians, singers and dancers, chosen from among the best and of all generations. The name literally means “the sound of joy” and was inspired by the Malinke proverb “Without music there is no joy, but without joy there is no music”.....Together they will tour through Europe in 2009 and through North America in 2010. An event to share his celebration with all of you ! .. .. ..

    Bonjour Mamady !

Ce serait bien si vous pouviez faire un stage de djembé à Paris ! Je ne sais pas si c'est possible pour vous, mais personnellement je n'ai pas la possibilité de me déplacer vers la Belgique où vous organisez régulièrement des stages ...
    Merci !!

    Bonne continuation,
    Alexis
