..UPDATE.. :.... ..10th November 2010........ --------------------------------........ .... == ....Devonté Hynes & Van Dyke Parks collaboration from last year is to be released on December 13th.... == .. Lightspeed Champion.. is now in Technicolor, or at least that’s how it feels listening to the four unreleased tracks that make up Devonté Hynes' new EP ..Bye Bye.., which is available on 10” (RUG387T) and via digital download (RUG387D) from ..13th December 2010..... .. Absorbing these opulent songs, awash with strings and lush instrumentation, it makes complete sense to see the legendary composer and producer ..Van Dyke Parks.. (Beach Boys, The Byrds, Joanna Newsom), a man with the abilities to make just about anything sound interminably beautiful, credited as having arranged three tracks, something Dev having been a long-time admirer, understandably comments on as “being pretty surreal.”.. .. Opening with an overwhelmingly pretty cover of the ..Beach Boy’s.. ‘Til I Die’ (which seems very appropriate, all things considered), ‘..Underwater There Is Nothing..’, a version of the similarly titled track from his most recent LP, Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You, follows on alongside two previously unheard tracks, ‘..Bye Bye Icarus..’ and ‘..The Mess You’re In’... '..Bye Bye'.. is the kind of sunburst record you might feel very grateful for as the winter months begin to roll in... .. Artwork was painted by Devonté Hynes... .... I've been pretty quiet recently, so here's roughly what's been going on...
I'm currently working hard with Solange Knowles on her forthcoming album...
Recording has taken us from Santa Barbara to Houston to the Hollywood Hills. So far it is sounding incredible and I can't wait for everyone to hear it...
I've also been writing and producing a few other bits and pieces, e.g Theophilus London's new single "Flying Overseas" feat. Solange Knowles, as well as on Diana Vickers album (which reached number 1!?!? Ridic.) to name a few, there others too.. out there, somewhere...
In the meantime keep and eye out for my new project Blood Orange.., which if you live in New York, i'm pretty much always playing odd shows whenever I'm home. A 7" single and Blood Orange album will be coming early 2011... check Bloodorangeforever.tumblr.com for more details.
A New (& final?) Lightspeed e.p was just released, it is a collaboration with legendary composer Van Dyke Parks (The Beach Boys,The Jungle Book, Harry Nilsson, Ringo Star, Joanna Newsom to name but a few of the people he's worked with) which we actually did together at the start of 2009 and features a 32 piece orchestra performing the tracks, as well as a Beach Boys cover I did of "Til I Die". The artwork is a painting I did specially for the e.p.
