    Burning Spear is an undispute musical legend for more than 35 years, Burning Spear's music-thus his life-has inspired people on numerous continents, since the beginning his songs have implored listeners to fight oppression in all its forms,to work at improving their own condition and to consider the social impact of their actions.. Hugely popular among the jamband scene, Burning Spear sings a tribute to his fanbase on "The Cruise," a song about jamming with jambands and fans .. Burning Spear follows the teachings of African unity and self-reliance taught by Marcus Garvey with an independent release on his own label Burning Music .. A concert for 65,000 in the land of his namesake (Kenya's first president) brought peace to Kenya during violent elections and inspired the song "One Africa" .. Burning Spear and his label Burning Music are doing what Bob Marley did not live long enough to achieve: running his own Jamaican-run independent label, putting a halt to the "lootin and burnin'" of reggae artists' royalties and payments; Spear becomes a spokesperson for the indie musician on "Wickedness" .. Featuring Booty Collins and Bernie Worrell .. On "No Compromise," Spear shows he is one of the last living reggae legends to stick to the roots of reggae's message and music . This lead to Burning Spear winning the Grammy on his own label for Jah Is Real.
